Purpose

The Cardigan Farmers’ Market (Market) has been established:

·        to enable local farmers and producers to sell their produce directly to the public;

·        to give consumers the chance to buy fresh, locally grown fruit and vegetables, home made products and Atlantic meat, fish and seafood; and

·        to support the community and local businesses by developing tourism and encouraging local participation.

Location

The venue for the Market in 2011 is the parking lot behind the fire hall/Post Office in the village of Cardigan.

Unless you are selling from your vehicle, we request that you park across the road during market hours.

Frequency

The Market will take place every Saturday between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. from July to September, 2011.

Criteria for Participation

·        Produce should be locally grown or from Atlantic Canada.  Products must be new and produced locally.

·        Your business must comply with all local and national laws and legislations regarding the production, labeling, display and sale of goods.

·        You must comply with the relevant Food Safety Regulations and must provide proof of a Food Service License if you sell processed foods and have it visibly displayed during the Market.

·        Applying to have a stall does not necessarily mean one will be offered.  Preference will be given to vendors who participated the previous year. Remaining spaces will generally be allocated on a first come, first served basis so early reservation is highly recommended.

Rules, Regulations and Other Important Stuff

· Vendors are encouraged to inspect the site before Market day to discuss their preferences and requirements, however the final decision for vendor placement will be with the site manager or Market Committee.

· Vendors need to supply their own table, tent or stall. If selling from a vehicle, the vehicle must be approved by the site manager or Market Committee. Vendors should be prepared for rain as the Market will not be canceled due to inclement weather.

· Vendors must fill out a Registration Form in order to participate in the Market and indicate on the form what products they are going to be selling throughout the season.

· Only those products listed on the form may be sold UNLESS prior permission has been obtained by the Market Committee to add additional items.

· While we understand that everyone's product is unique, where one or more vendors are selling the same , or a very similar item there MUST be co-operation regarding pricing. No vendor can "undercut" a competitor.

· The Market is open to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Vendors should be set up by opening time. Arriving late disrupts the other vendors and the public.

· In the event a vendor sells out of their product before Market close, they are requested not to leave early. Empty stalls in the Market give a poor impression to the public.

· Vendors should vacate the area by 1:30 p.m. It is the responsibility of each vendor to dispose of their own garbage and garbage produced as a result of their business..

· Payments for stalls are collected on the day of the Market.

· The current fee for participating at the Market is $10.00 per day or $15.00 if you require electricity. Electrical requirements should be identified at time of booking. There are a limited number of outlets available. You will have to provide your own refrigeration, such as coolers.

· A Young Entrepreneur's Section is being established this year. Fee for a stall is $5. Young vendors must be sixteen years old or younger. Because extra tables may not always be available it is advisable for participants to bring their own. Participants must comply with the rules and regulations of the market and sell only locally grown or produced items. There are a limited number of spaces available each Saturday.

· If for any reason you are unable to attend the Market on the day you had reserved, you should contact a member of the Market Committee as soon as possible so that someone on the waiting list can take your spot.

· Securing of canopies, umbrellas, coolers, etc. is the responsibility of individual vendors. Liability for any damage, loss or injury caused by your fixtures is not covered by the Market’s insurance policy.

· The Market Committee or site manager has the right to evict and/or bar anyone, temporarily or permanently, who fails to comply with Market regulations.
